As featured on Today Tonight.

While a frozen sugary drink can seem like a cheap way to cool down on a scorching day, these drinks are packed with sugar your body doesn’t need.

Slushies are heavily marketed in the summer months; they’re extremely cheap and can be found everywhere.

LiveLighter analysis

We analysed the sugar content of all frozen drinks currently on the market and were shocked by the results with up to 20 teaspoons of sugar in a non-milky slushie. You're basically slurping your way to weight gain, toxic fat around your vital organs and an increased risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers not to mention rotting teeth.

If you consumed the worst offender for every day of summer you’d be consuming a whopping 7 kilos of sugar and could potentially stack on more than 3kg.

Healthy slushies

Making a healthy slushie at home is a great way to cool down over summer without all that unhealthy added sugar. They're also a great way to get you towards your 2 serves of fruit a day!

All you need is some frozen fruit, a touch of juice and a squeeze of lime. Watermelon, pineapple, mixed berries or mango all work well.
