Do you really want fries with that?

LiveLighter is taking the fight against toxic fat right to the front doors of fast food outlets across Perth.

This week, dozens of bus shelter advertisements (also known as AdShels) bearing confronting images of toxic fat, will be placed outside clusters of fast food outlets.

It's hoped these advertisements will encourage hungry patrons to turn away from fast food and seek a healthier option instead.

"Fast food outlets serve some of the unhealthiest food you can buy. One of the most popular chains sells a burger with 30.8g of saturated fat. That's well over the recommended daily intake for the average person, and nearly 5 times higher than the upper limit for a healthy food," said Maurice Swanson, Chief Executive of the Heart Foundation.

"The drinks are no better. The same chain sells a drink with 122g of sugar and next to no nutritional value," he continued.

"Fast food might seem like an easy option, but hitting the drive-thru too often will increase the amount of toxic fat around your organs, increasing your risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers. It's just not worth it."

The advertisements will be rotated through 210 key locations across Perth until early May.
