With grocery costs expected to rise, a new push from Cancer Council WA’s LiveLighter program is helping West Australians take control of their food habits, save money, and eat well - all in just 15 minutes.
The third wave of the LiveLighter Habits campaign launches on Sunday 12 April and runs until Saturday 27 June 2026, with a fresh focus on building confidence in the kitchen through a simple new initiative - Do the Dish Dash.
The campaign comes at a critical time for WA households feeling the pinch at the checkout.
Many people are worried about rising food costs, but eating well doesn’t have to mean spending more.
Do the Dish Dash is all about making healthy eating easier, faster and more affordable. We’re creating the tools to give people confidence to cook simple meals at home, which can save money and support better health.
By signing up, participants will receive two quick, 15-minute recipes delivered to their inbox each week for a month, along with a ready-made shopping list, how-to videos, and practical healthy eating tips. As an added incentive, everyone who signs up will go into the draw to win a $200 grocery voucher.
The Habits campaign, developed in Western Australia, aims to highlight how everyday food choices can impact long-term health, while offering realistic, practical ways to make healthier swaps.
Small changes to our eating habits can lower our risk of serious diseases like heart disease, several cancers and fatty liver disease.
It can be as simple as planning ahead with a shopping list to avoid impulse buys or turning what’s already in your fridge into a quick, nutritious meal instead of ordering takeaway.
Building healthy habits doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With the right support, small changes can make a big difference — not just for your health, but for your budget too.
The campaign encourages achievable habits such as:
- Planning meals and shopping with a list to stay on track and avoid highly advertised junk foods
- Creating easy “snack plate” dinners using leftovers, vegetables, hummus and crackers
- Making simple, low-cost lunches from pantry staples like rice, tuna and beans
- Swapping dessert for healthier options like Greek yoghurt, fruit and nuts.
The Habits campaign will roll out across TV, catch-up TV, radio, streaming, YouTube, social media, gyms and shopping centres, targeting WA adults aged 25–64, with a focus on regional and priority communities.
LiveLighter is funded by the WA Department of Health and run by Cancer Council WA.
