Free and low-cost classes in Perth to stay fit and mobile for people over 50

Keeping involved in the community as you age has amazing health benefits both mentally and physically. And with so many community groups, classes and workshops out there, there is a variety of free and low-cost community classes to join.
Prime Movers (various locations)
Prime Movers offer low-cost exercise classes at multiple locations around Perth for over 50s. The classes focus on stretching, low impact aerobics and muscle work and are run in a friendly environment with familiar music. Classes run for an hour and are only $5 per person for members or $6 for visitors, with an annual membership fee of only $20. In locations spanning from Mandurah to Quinns Rock, check out the timetable here to find one near you and get moving with a fun and supportive community.
Active in the park (City of Melville)
Staying active is a big priority for the City of Melville who offer a variety of free and low-cost classes as part of their Active in the Park program, including Sit-to-Fit seated classes at Leisurefit Melville and Active Light classes at Jeff Joseph Reserve.
Geri-fit classes (City of Swan)
Run by the City of Swan and held at the Old Midland Courthouse and the Ballajura Library, Geri-fit is a free class focusing on sitting or standing movements with light weights to keep people moving as they age. To find out more and book in, search “Geri-fit” on the Eventbrite website.

Active Ageing (City of Armadale)
The City of Armadale offers free Active Ageing exercise classes in Armadale and Kelmscott for people aged 60 years and over. Check out the City of Armadale’s what’s on page to find out when the next program is running.
Seniorocity (various locations)
The Seniorocity website is the ultimate guide for all things in Perth for over 55s. Their what’s on in Perth page shares a list of free and low-cost events around Perth, including fitness classes like Zumba for over 55s, Wanjoo Wanders walking group and dancing groups.
Over 50s outdoor fitness (City of Kwinana)
The City of Kwinana runs free 60-minute outdoor fitness for over 50s at the Thomas Kelly Pavilion in Medina. For more information and to book into a program see the City of Kwinana’s Eventbrite page.

Pole walking (City of Armadale)
Pole walking is a great way for those young at heart to get active. It involves low-impact walking with specially designed poles with the aim of enhancing balance, stability and mobility. There are pole walking groups that meet weekly in Roleystone, Kelmscott and Armadale.

Move Your Body (City of Mandurah)
Move Your Body is a free and inclusive outdoor fitness class for those aged 60+ designed to prevent falls and enhance overall health. The sessions involve using the gym equipment at public parks in the Mandurah area. For more information and to book visit the City of Mandurah page.

Finding fitness classes near you is easier than ever with websites like Eventbrite, the Act Belong Commit activity finder and Facebook events/groups. Many local governments also offer free classes for over 50s or over 60s, which can be found on your local area’s “what’s on” page.
