Whether you’re looking to save time in the morning, don’t enjoy cereal/ toast, or would like to expand your breakfast horizons, we’ve got some off-beat brekkies that are fun and delicious.
Freezer specials
Make a double batch of these and say “you’re welcome” to future you.
Toasted breakfast bars
These are a great breakfast or lunchbox snack. Take them straight from the freezer, and give them an extra crisp-up in the toaster if you like.
Muesli muffin
It’s like a bowl of cereal you can hold in one hand! This one has cinnamon, sultanas and apples but mix it up for a different flavour twist. They freeze really well and are extra delicious warmed up.
Out-of-the-box
The “don’t knock it till you’ve tried it” section :)
Frumpets
The French-toast/ crumpet mash up you didn’t know you needed! Style it sweet or savoury, the choice is yours!
Sweetpea
A liquid breakfast with a secret ingredient – chickpeas! This one also freezes well. Fill up an ice cube tray with any leftovers for a super speedy breakfast or snack another time.10 minute noodles
Noodles + frozen veg + eggs. Sounds like all the core food groups to me! And if you pre-boil some eggs, there’s only 1 dish to wash up!
Ready when you are
All the prep is done the night before, and these options are highly transportable. They also make great morning teas.
Chia pudding
We’ve got a coco-mango or choc-berry version, spin the flavours to use your favourite fruits or whatever’s in season. Make in jars for easy and transportable portions.
Overnight oats
Only 6 ingredients, and it’s easy to do in a big batch as it will keep well in the fridge for a good few days. Choose whatever fresh, canned, dried or frozen fruits you like… with the exception of fresh pineapple, papaya and kiwi – the enzymes in those do funny things to the milk.
Toast toppers
If plain toast isn't cutting it, try these ideas for substantial toast toppings that will keep you satisfied.
Homemade baked beans
No shade on canned baked beans… but homemade is really on another level. The smoked paprika is a must – gives the whole dish a real depth of flavour.
Raisin toast
Straight ricotta and fruit on toast is delicious. This recipe elevates it by using raisin toast AND flavouring it with a little honey and cinnamon.
Smashed peas
If you squint, it looks like smashed avo... But it’s actually that trusty workhorse, frozen peas! This is also great as a dip so it’s worth making a double batch!
All in the oven
These oven-baked goodies are great to feed a crowd. The magic all happens in the oven while you enjoy a cuppa. Perfection!
Eggs in a basket
Easy enough for a weekday, and fancy enough for a brunch. And who doesn’t love an edible bowl?!
Tray-baked pancakes
Swap the fruits around to include what’s in season or on hand. We’ve also got this SUPER EASY pancake recipe if you’re looking for something more traditional.
Whether or not you believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it can definitely be a bit more fun. We’d love to hear about your favourite unconventional breakfasts!
